A research position for one Research Grant (?Bolsa de Investigação?) is open at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of the Project SMART - PTDC/EQU-EQU/3853/2020. This project is funded by COMPETE 2020 IN THE FEDER COMPONENT, AND BY FUNDAÇÃO PARA A CIÊNCIA E TECNOLOGIA, I.P., IN THE NATIONAL COMPONENT.

Admission Requirements:

- Master Degree in Biomedical Engineering or related areas; Strong knowledge in stem cell bioprocess culture, monitoring techniques, and analysis of differentiation processes for cardiomyocyte production; Strong knowledge on genomics and transcriptome analysis; Experience in human pluripotent stem cells gene expression data processing and analysis exploring unsupervised machine learning techniques; Demonstrated ability to integrate multi-disciplinary teams; Good English writing skills; Self- motivation for scientific research.





Work Objectives:

The main research topic is the exploration of machine learning techniques, starting with unsupervised learning approaches for exploratory data analysis, and later supervised learning approaches to evaluate predictive models, in the analysis and characterization of cells generated throughout culture processes using transcriptomic and metabolomic approaches. Based on data obtained using bioreactor culture environments, the main objectives are to develop process models that may be used to: i) characterize the generated cells through the different culture stages and discover new patterns in the generated data; ii) predict process outcomes at early stages; iii) create a dynamic control strategy of the culture environment, to ensure maximum quality of the final product.





Applicable legislation:

A fellowship will be celebrated according to ?Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação?, according to Law no. 40/2004, dated on 18th of August (Status of Scientific Research Fellow - https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/estatutobolseiro.phtml.pt), in its actual redaction, by Fellowship Regulation of Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt), according to Reg. 950/2019, dated on 16th of December, and also by ?Regulation of Instituto de Telecomunicações? fellowships?.





Place of work:

The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações ? Pólo Lisboa, under the supervision of Professor Ana Fred.





Duration:

12 months, with the possibility of renewal (according to the regulations defined by FCT). Start date: September 1, 2022 or soon thereafter.





Monthly salary:

1.144,64? according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores) / according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by Instituto de Telecomunicações. The payment will be made by bank transfer.

Each criteria, and the final classification F will be evaluated in a scale (0-20). The candidates will be ordered according to:

In case of a tie, the tied candidates will be ordered according to C1, then C2...
