A research position for one Research Grant (?Bolsa de Investigação?) is open at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of the Project PC284? UIDB/50008/2020. This project is funded by FCT/MCTES through national funds and when applicable co-funded EU funds under the project reference UIDB/50008/2020.

Scientific Area:

Basic Sciences and Enabling Technologies

Group:

Power Systems - Cv

Admission Requirements:

  • students enrolled in a master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, to undertake initial R&D activities, with a view to beginning their scientific training through integration in R&D projects to be developed in national institutions; students with an undergraduate degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering carrying out initial R&D activities, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units, with experience in: i) development of metaheuristics to provide a better way for solving optimization problems; ii) development of algorithms to be applied in energy conversion and storage; iii) data treatment. The candidate should be fluent in English, have good writing and spoken skills, and be interested in scientific research..

  • Work Objectives:

    1. Develop an optimization algorithm to estimate the parameters of the lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries impedance under different conditions of temperature, state of charge (SOC) and number of charging/discharging cycles. Those parameters allow the determination of an equivalent electrical model that characterizes the battery behavior for different operating conditions (different optimization algorithms should be tested and compared).

    2. Use the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique to determine the lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries impedance under different conditions of temperature, state of charge (SOC) and number of charging/discharging cycles and compare results with those obtained by optimization techniques.

    Applicable legislation:

    A fellowship will be celebrated according to ?Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação?, according to Law no. 40/2004, dated on 18th of August (Status of Scientific Research Fellow - https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/estatutobolseiro.phtml.pt), in its actual redaction, by Fellowship Regulation of Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt), according to Reg. 950/2019, dated on 16th of December, and also by ?Regulation of Instituto de Telecomunicações? fellowships?.

    • C4 (15%)
      The motivation of the candidate expressed in a cover letter

    Each criteria, and the final classification F will be evaluated in a scale (0-20). The candidates will be ordered according to:

    F = C1 x 30% + C2 x 40% + C3 x 15% + C4 x 15%

    In case of a tie, the tied candidates will be ordered according to C1, then C2...
