As a Data Engineer II, you will be responsible for implementing a wide range of products, technologies, and solutions for our clients. These range from Application Development to Cloud-based Deployment and Big/Fast Data Systems Implementations.

We are looking for strong candidates that possess a combination of broad knowledge of the types of technologies provided by VMware and the ability to go deep/hands-on to implement them for our clients.

VMware Tanzu SQL - Tanzu SQL provides your choice of open-source database engines based on MySQL and Postgres.

With Tanzu SQL, application developers can manage data services in the same way as the rest of the application stack with an easy UI and self-service APIs. Platform teams gain built-in automation that reduces effort to run and patch the clusters. Data teams can be confident that data is managed in approved, policy-compliant database instances.

Tanzu SQL is a collection of three products that allows organizations to build their own Database-as-a-Service while also giving them access and support to run databases as they need across their organization.

The three products are: VMware Postgres, Kubernetes database operators for MySQL and Kubernetes database operators for Postgres.

VMware Data Management - Data Management for VMware Tanzu is a VMware solution that offers a data-as-a-service toolkit for on-demand provisioning and automated management of PostgreSQL and MySQL databases on vSphere environment. Data Management for VMware Tanzu provides both a graphical user interface and a REST API in the toolkit, enabling both administrators and developers to get the most out of the service.

Job Summary

The Data Engineer II takes part of the process design/redesign, solution design, application design and planning, system upgrades and migrations, acceptance testing, performance and scale testing and development.

This role may engage independently with the client to provide technical advice and oversight or may participate on the project team as a senior technical resource.

Responsibilities

• 
  Designs the solution and supports the installation, customization, and integration of the solution. Prepares technical design and implementation design documents and works with the project management to ensure all project requirements are met. Advises on tactical performance and tuning of the VMware Tanzu Data Service technologies
• 
  Assists in sales process
• 
  Troubleshoots application problems
• 
  Provides project team leadership and partner engagement
• 
  Develops and documents strategies, policies and best practices for the customer.

Required Skills

• 
  Hands on experience in implementing large and fast data platforms.
• 
  Ability to deliver onsite proof of concepts for Postgresql technologies
• 
  3-5 Years Minimum Experience with PostgreSQL versions from 9.5 to 13
• 
  Professional experience troubleshooting of the following: Postgres, MySQL, query performance, performance troubleshooting with tools like perf and strace
• 
  Proven consultative and client relationships skills and experience
• 
  Extensive experience with multiple operating systems, Linux/Unix in particular
• 
  Experience working with containers and container orchestrators: Docker and Kubernetes with deep knowledge of the kubernetes operator pattern
• 
  Experience working in Professional Services / Consulting on high impact, data/platform oriented projects with smaller, independent project teams
• 
  Experience in designing and deploying enterprise solutions;
• 
  Familiarity with scripting languages: shell, Perl/Python/C/Java
•
