Graduate Systems Engineer Full-time

The Infinera Systems Engineer (SE) is the primary technical resource for the Regional Sales manager. Responsible for actively driving and managing the technology proposition and evaluation stage of the sales process, working in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor and product advocate for the Infinera product portfolio. The Systems Engineer must be able to articulate technology and product positioning to both business commercial and technical customers. Must be able to establish and maintain strong relationships throughout the sales cycle maintaining senior level relationships.

We are growing the team to include positions based in our Lisbon site, working in a support capacity to front-end SEs across the entire region. This role therefore be a mixture of direct customer engagement and helping the existing SE team with network designs and other tasks. It is an excellent opportunity for a first role in Sales and with career development potential.

You will have a Degree or Masters Degree in Telecommunications or Optical Engineering.


Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Responsible for managing technical demonstrations and lab trials;
  • Responsible for development and delivery of technical product presentations / demonstrations;
  • Managing and interpreting customer requirements - speaking with customers to understand, anticipate and meet their needs;
  • Articulating to customers that a product or design solution best satisfies their requirements in terms of reliability, scalability, price and delivery;
  • Supporting marketing activities by attending trade shows, conferences and other marketing events;
  • Able to respond to functional and technical elements of RFIs/RFPs
  • Able to convey customer feature requirements to corporate Product Line Management teams;
  • Able to travel throughout the sales region.
  • Develop and grow long-term relationships with customers and influence customer requirements;
  • Producing customer orderable quotations;
  • Provide after-sales support services;
  • Liaising with other members of the sales team and other technical experts;
  • Providing training and producing support material for other members of the sales team.


Personality: You will be self-driven with a positive outlook and comfortable working in a sales environment. You will be reliable and determined with excellent communication skills able to see things from another person's perspective. Well presented and business like and sufficiently mobile and flexible to travel as needed within the region.


Specific Job Skills:

  • Minimum B.Sc. or M.Sc. Technical Degree in a field linked to Telecommunications including, but not limited to, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, OptoElectronics, Cyber Security etc. A business degree will be considered with evidence of the ability to master complex technology concepts.
  • Theoretical knowledge through of packet optical network protocols and protection schemes, DWDM technology, IP routing protocols, Ethernet, Software Defined Networking is desirable.
  • Previous work experience, in any technical or sales field, would be advantageous.
  • Proactive with an efficient approach to heavy workloads and prioritization, with strong organizational skills.
  • Eager to learn.
  • Very strong communication skills ? verbal, written and presentation. An articulate communicator, with excellent writing and social skills and adaptable to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong business relationships and understand customer needs. Must also work in a team environment.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, aligning the solution design and associated cost modelling to creative and adaptive approaches.
  • The candidate must also be comfortable in the dynamic atmosphere of a young technical sales organization with a rapidly expanding customer base.
