BNP Paribas is a leader in the Eurozone, and a prominent international banking institution with strong roots in Europe's banking history. It has a presence in 71 countries, with 200 000 Employees ? including more than 150 000 in Europe and 6 000 in Portugal alone.
BNP Paribas is present in Portugal since 1985, having been one of the first foreign banks to operate in the country. Today, the Group has several entities operating directly in this territory, offering a wide range of integrated financial solutions to support its clients and their businesses.
Thanks to its international presence and regular and close collaboration among its businesses, BNP Paribas has the resources to support all clients - individuals, entrepreneurs, SMEs, large corporates, institutional investors and community organisations - with financing, investment, savings and protection solutions that help make their projects a success. BNP Paribas holds key positions in its three core operating divisions: Domestic Markets and International Financial Services for retail banking and specialised financial services, and Corporate & Institutional Banking for corporate and institutional clients.
The Compliance function ensures the security of the Group as a key element of its internal control mechanism and by complying with Laws and regulatory requirements.
Present in five continents, this function brings together around 3,700 employees. The integration of the function, through an integrated transformation programme which began in early 2015, resulted in the establishment of 6 areas of Compliance expertise (Financial Security, KYC, Market Integrity, Protection of Clients' interests, Professional Ethics, Tax Compliance and Structural Banking Reforms), covering three operational perimeters (CIB, IFS, Domestic Markets).
This new model is built around three main principles: independence, integration and decentralisation. The International Retail Banking (IRB) entity brings together the BNP Paribas Group's retail banks outside the Euro zone in 5 geographic zones. Offering individuals, professionals and businesses the full range of banking and financial services, these banks have a strong local foothold and often operate under a local brand. They rely on the strength of the Group and on the knowledge to provide the best customer service and support it over time.
IRB brings together 42,400 employees in 15 countries, 2,700 branches and nearly 7 million customers.
